Together Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Partnership.

We present a dare for long-term couples who are fans of scary movies: Get comfortable with your significant other and stream Together. This 2025 indie hit has now made its streaming debut on Hulu. At first glance, it may seem like typical physical horror, but beneath Together resides a deep contemplation about our choices in loving one another.

A Debut Feature Delving into The Nuances of Love

Together marks the debut feature-length film for director Michael Shanks. It showcases Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, a pair who are not married that have remained a couple for a decade. United in marriage in actuality in 2017, the two stars contribute a particular energy to their characters, skillfully embodying both the joys and frustrations of a enduring union.

The narrative starts when Millie and Tim transition from the metropolis to the country for professional reasons. A commonly used story element, of course, but that’s mostly where the tropes end. Together becomes as much a deep dive into the psyche of the partnership as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Paranormal Spark

While trekking near their new home, a storm hits, and Millie and Tim discover an underground cave. After being trapped overnight there and finally finding a way out, a mysterious influence begins influencing the couple. This force compels a supernatural closeness between them that goes far beyond simple connection.

The entire film is a methodically building fright fest, interspersing elements of hallucinatory nightmares, disturbing (but not excessively graphic) physical transformations, and genuinely funny dialogue (sometimes during something grotesque). Shanks skillfully blends these components expertly and wraps them up in a gradually swelling atmosphere of fear.

Complex Characterizations

A large part of Together is solely the two lead actors, and they skillfully illustrate manifold depths to the characters’ relationship. Millie's sense of self and sense of connection is waning due to a distance. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his unwillingness to pursue anything but his floundering music career gradually emerges.

Conversely, Tim feels trapped and isolated by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve moved to the country and far away from his social circle. He dreads the notion of completely losing his individual identity in his partner. This fear is intensified by the fact he can’t drive and is dependent on Millie for getting around.

The director's cleverest decision in Together never makes one partner or the other the definite antagonist.

Both characters grapple with the sort of issues that are inherent in most partnerships a decade in. Fundamentally, they still love one another. They still laugh together, comfort one another, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an unavoidable current of uncertainty about their future together.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the supernatural forces in Together represent these fears of excessive reliance and giving oneself over to another person, the allegory avoids being clumsy or self-important. Instead, these visceral horror elements present a brilliant analogue to the character-driven drama. Both the horror and the drama enhance each other in harmony.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s conclusion, which is best experienced firsthand, has left audiences divided on the movie's final takeaway about enmeshed dynamics. Reports indicate that single viewers have understood the narrative as a powerful case for avoiding commitment. Meanwhile, some couples having disagreements found that the film actually helped them make up.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own reaction could potentially serve as a great barometer of how you perceive partnership. Will the conclusion plant anxiety and horror, or a positive outlook on love? Will you see yourself in Tim or Millie and scream at your TV, or simply glance toward your other half and utter, “I’d do that for you”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an experiment you can undertake at this very moment.
